ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Skies will be partly cloudy overnight into early Tuesday morning with some scattered showers and storms still coming in from the Gulf.

Morning lows will be in the upper 70s to around 80 at the coast and mid 70s for inland areas.

There will not be as many storms coming in from the Gulf as what we had last night but there will still be some and they will tend to increase in coverage into the morning.

We're in the middle of an impressive jet stream pattern across the southeastern U.S.  The jet stream is dipping so far to the south that its pulling moisture from the Gulf and pushing it eastward leading to intervals of showers and storms in our area.

The timing is not at our typical afternoon times and the showers and storms usually come in during the morning hours and the first half of the day.

They all have an eastward movement due to the winds from the west. In this pattern it also tends to be slightly cooler for highs, but the lows tend to be warmer due to the air flowing in off the warm Gulf waters.

Therefore there is not a wide variation from low to high. For example, the morning lows will be in the mid to upper 70s while the highs will only be in the mid to upper 80s.

With that in mind, expect another round of showers and storms to come in from the Gulf for Tuesday morning and move eastward. There will likely be a couple rounds, so if you miss the morning one, there will be a few more storms to pass through the afternoon.

Then things will wind down into the evening. This pattern will hold through Thursday and then things will start to change on Friday into the upcoming weekend.
