NATIONWIDE -- The FBI is warning people about romance scams this Valentine's Day.

Nearly 15,000 people lost about $230 million in 2016 to scammers who pretended to be interested in a romantic relationship and convinced them to give up their personal information.

They say you should check to see if the picture the person is using is being used for different profiles or under different names.

Be cautious if the person seems too perfect or tries to isolate you from friends or family.

Also, beware of anyone who promises to meet in person, but always comes up with an excuse at the last minute.

Of course, also never send money to anyone you don't know personally.
