1. Local officials praise, caution lifting of New York mask mandate
Fully vaccinated New Yorkers can finally say goodbye to their masks starting on Wednesday. This guidance also means that mask enforcement will fall on businesses and venues, which can also require people show proof of COVID-19 vaccination. This can be through their physical vaccine card or the Excelsior Pass app.
2. Quirk leaves 2 North Country school districts without federal funding
Funding from the federal Cares Act and the American Rescue Plan are based on the U.S. Department of Education’s Title 1 formula. It’s calculated using Census data on students living in poverty between the ages of 5 and 17. But two North Country school districts, Long Lake and Indian Lake, have such small populations that they don’t meet the 10-student minimum threshold for receiving Title 1 funding.
