CARY, N.C. -- Just in time for the holidays, an unbelievable lights display with international flair is taking over a North Carolina town.  Starting this week, thousands of people from near are far are expected to travel to Booth Amphitheatre in Cary for the North Carolina Chinese Lantern Festival.

  • The tour takes anywhere from 45-75 minutes on average
  • In addition to the lights, cultural performances will also take the stage numerous times during the evening

"It's a sight you certainly don't want to miss," says Town of Cary Cultural Arts Supervisor Lyman Collins. Collins sat down with Spectrum News anchor Caroline Blair for an In Depth look at this year’s event.  

The massive self-guided walking tour features thousands of lights donning more then 20 unique Chinese cultural displays. Patrons can observe the one of a kind lantern displays as they walk from exhibit to exhibit at Booth Amphitheatre in Cary. 

The tour takes anywhere from 45-75 minutes on average, with a number of stops along the way for food and drinks during the approximately half-mile walk. 

There is limited seating available on the crescent deck for those that need to rest or want to sit and take in the view. That is also the location of food and beverage stands that will be selling holiday treats. In addition to the lights, cultural performances will also take the stage numerous times during the evening.

The North Carolina Chinese Lantern Festival kicks off to the public on Friday, November 23 and runs through Sunday, January 13.  The event is open from 6 p.m.- 10 p.m. every night except for Mondays. 

The festival is closed Mondays except for December 24 and the 31. Parking is free, while ticket prices range from $10 to $20 depending on the day and type of ticket.  For more information visit the Town of Cary’s website
