DURHAM, N.C. -- In the wake of a shooting at a gaming tournament in Florida that left three people dead and a number of others hurt, other scheduled gaming events are being canceled or postponed across the country.  And one of them was a Madden 19 tournament set to take place at the Streets of Southpoint this weekend, being put on by a North Carolina native, UNC alum and longtime NFL running back.

Shonda and Shaun Draughn are co founders of the Draughn Family Foundation, a nonprofit they say works to help grow and build-up middle and high school students and help them succeed.  They joined forces with NFL Alumni of the Carolinas, Microsoft, and the Nigel King Academy to plan a STEM related event on Sept. 2, that would offer coding, Minecraft competition and Madden 19.  But the event was postponed due due to last weekend’s deadly shooting by event organizers. The hope to reschedule to fun the third week of September at the mall's Mircrosoft store.

The Draughns say ironically enough, this is what their organization is working to fight against. They want to create a safe space where students can grow to become the best they can be. They want these teens to feel comfortable in their own skin, and grow up to thrive using the skills they currently have.
