Hot gets hotter as the week continues. After heat index values ranged from 100 to 112 degrees Monday afternoon, Tuesday may have some locations reach up to 115 degrees.
Due to the higher heat index forecast, an Extreme Heat Warning will go into effect for much of eastern North Carolina Tuesday morning and last until Wednesday evening.
This is potentially deadly heat for those without effective cooling. Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks from the heat in an air conditioned room.
Temperatures will back off some toward the end of the week as rain could make a return to the forecast. Isolated strong storms cannot be ruled out Wednesday. They may produce damaging winds and hail.
