NORTH CAROLINA -- Chilly morning temperatures will give way to highs that will be a bit milder than yesterday.....about 10 degrees warmer than yesterday in many areas.

  • A beautiful Veterans Day is on the way with lots of sun and highs in the upper 60s in the piedmont, upper 50s in the mountains, and lower 70s in many coastal locations
  • A sharp cold front swings in late Monday night into Tuesday
  • A big-time plunge of cold air will follow that cold front, and temperatures will fall in many areas as Tuesday unfolds

A beautiful Veterans Day is on the way with lots of sun and highs in the upper 60s in the piedmont, upper 50s in the mountains, and lower 70s in many coastal locations.

A sharp cold front swings in late Monday night into Tuesday. That front will bring a period of some snow for the mountains Tuesday morning and a band of rain through the piedmont and coast through Tuesday. Snow totals of 1-3" look fairly likely for many mountain areas, and rain amounts look to be around 0.5" or so for much of the rest of the state.

A big-time plunge of cold air will follow that cold front, and temperatures will fall in many areas as Tuesday unfolds. By Wednesday morning, mountain lows will be well down into the teens with piedmont lows well down into the 20s. Even along the coast, lows should be below freezing. Look for similar lows Wednesday night into Thursday morning after highs Wednesday will run 15-20 degrees below average for this time of year.
