Orange County Sheriff Charles Blackwood announced there is a 17-year-old who is a suspect in the deaths of two teens

Devin Clark, 18, and 14-year-old Lyric Woods were found dead with gunshot wounds in a rural area Sunday

Teens who are 17 or 16 at the time of a crime don't automatically enter the adult criminial justice system

A 17-year-old will face two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of 18-year-old Devin Clark and 14-year-old Lyric Woods, Blackwood said. Both teens were discovered dead Sunday afternoon after being reported missing over the weekend. They both had gunshot wounds, authorities said.

Deputies are getting a juvenile petition against the 17-year-old, and no other information has been released on the suspect due to their age. While officials have announced there is a suspect in the case, they haven't released details on a possible motive or what they believe unfolded in a field off Buckhorn Road where the teens were found.

“Through the hard work of my investigators, along with the assistance of personnel from many other law enforcement agencies, we have identified a suspect in this case," Blackwood said in a news release. "We will now work with local, state and federal authorities to apprehend and present the suspect to the court system.”

Teens who are 16 or 17 years old aren't automatically charged as adults, OCSO officials said.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information can contact Inspector Keith Goodwin at 919-245-2918.
