Supply chain issues caused by the pandemic, along with a February recall on certain formulas, led to less product on shelves.

One Triad mom, and foster and adoption care worker, says this shortage is having a bigger impact than any prior shortage.

“This is different than toilet paper and cleaning supplies because it's food for their body. They can't live without these things,” said Seven Homes Inc. Communication Relations Director Katelyn Hall.

She said it is especially difficult on adopting parents, because they have no alternative to formula.

“They searched all over the county, and they are searching other counties now, and I’ve also sent employees to go look as well,” Hall said about parents searching formula.

For now, Hall is advising parents to begin weening their of age children from bottles.

“I have a 6-month-old baby boy, and I am also short on formula for him, so I have personally been supplementing by adding more and more food because he is of the age. So I am expediting that a little bit more,” Hall said.

The FDA also said some of its plan to address the shortage includes asking retailers to consider purchase limits, which Target, CVS, and Walgreens are already doing.
