ASHEVILLE, N.C. — A portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina remains closed because of a wildfire in the Pisgah National Forest, officials said on Friday.

The U.S. Forest Service said firefighters are working to contain the Barnett Branch Fire in the Pisgah Ranger District. The fire is now approximately 200 acres burning in rough terrain, the forest service said.

The Blue Ridge Parkway is closed from U.S. Highway 276 to The Pisgah Inn and will be reopened as soon as possible, officials said. Yellow Gap Road is closed and expected to remain closed through the weekend pending fire conditions, the service said.

The Pisgah Inn, located at milepost 408, is still accessible from Asheville via U.S. 276. It’s not in any imminent danger and officials said no evacuations have been ordered.

Officials said in addition to Yellow Gap Road, Barnett Branch Trail #618 above Yellow Gap Rd, Buck Springs Trail #104 and Mountains to Sea Trail from Hwy 276 north to the Pisgah Inn are also closed. These closures are expected to remain in place through the weekend.

Burnout operations are continuing to help control the fire’s spread and intensity. As of late Friday morning, officials said 26 firefighters from the U.S. Forest Service had contained roughly 25% of the blaze.

Officials say the fire was initially reported on April 27, and the cause is still under investigation.
