CHARLOTTE, N.C — There are several laundromats and laundry services in the Charlotte area, but so far, only one set of laundry lockers. Leslie's Laundry Lockers were placed in Carolina Place Mall in early November.

Domonique Boone created Leslie's Laundry, named after her daughter, in 2017 as a part-time job to create more income. When the COVID pandemic hit, she lost her job and decided Leslie's Laundry would be her new full-time job.

While researching contactless laundry options, Boone discovered laundry lockers. Clients drop off their laundry and dry cleaning into lockers, and Boone picks it up and delivers it back to the same locker once it is clean. 

"You know, with entrepreneurship you just have to take a risk,” Boone said. “It’s been going good so far so I’m excited for the future,” she added.

Boone plans to franchise the lockers if business holds steady. Right now, she said Leslie's Laundry is averaging about nine new customers a day.

“Each day, I'm looking for new customers and [it's nice] just to have it in one convenient location,” Boone said.

Franchising and expanding are both ways Boone wants to set up her 6-year-old, Leslie, for success in the future if she wants to take over the family business.

Leslie already helps her mom when she can.

“She always comes along to help. She loves it. It makes it exciting,” Boone said.

Customers can get started by scanning a QR code on the lockers to set up an account and track their laundry.
