The college is launching a new supply chain management program in January to better equip our future leaders with skills to address supply chain issues.

Clifford Raynor is a proud graduate of Johnston Community College's truck driver program.

He's now the owner of Rayn or Shine Trucking, doing his part to address the recent supply chain crisis by carrying goods across state lines.

"If you are like me, you take it for granted," Raynor said. "We go home, sit at our table and eat. The most we know is the supermarket or store where we buy the goods from. But where did it come from?"

Luckily for him, the work right now is plentiful.

"It's a little concerning because the loads I don't take, someone has to so hopefully there will be enough truck drivers out there to keep the supplies moving, keep the chain moving," Raynor said.

Robert Hildenbrand, JCC's logistics and transportation chair, will be leading the course.

"We are at a crossroads between COVID and e-commerce, and since those are crossed over now, this is why you are seeing shortages in products you want to buy," Hildenbrand said.

People who enjoy working well with others, have basic math and computer skills and a knack for organizing are good candidates for this program.

"I also think it's very important from a worldwide economic development standpoint and from people's betterment of their lives that supply chain is run and organized well," Hildenbrand said.

This is a two year program.

Students will receive an associates degree in supply chain management.
