MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. — A man is facing murder charges in the killing of a missing 30-year-old Gastonia woman.

LaPorscha Baldwin's body was found in Fairfield County, S.C. on October 14, four days after her family reported her missing from Gastonia, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say. 

Baldwin's car was found abandoned on Interstate 85 between Sam Wilson Road and Belmont. "The case is being investigated as a homicide by CMPD as it was determined a crime occurred in their jurisdiction," Gastonia police tweeted. 

Police say Baldwin's ex boyfriend, 35-year-old Charles William Combs, was arrested in the case in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on October 16.

Combs is awaiting extradition to Mecklenburg County, where he faces first-degree murder charges in Baldwin's death.
