RALEIGH, N.C. — A protest that started Friday night in downtown Raleigh was declared an unlawful assembly by the Raleigh Police Department.

Around 100 protesters gathered at the state capitol before marching through downtown protesting police brutality.

Some protesters decided to ride bikes, including 15-year-old Kaeloni. She said she wanted to stay toward the back of the crowd because she was tear-gassed last spring while protesting the murder of George Floyd.

"They started throwing tear gas at us and then the tear gas … it started burning, and we was trying to run, and they started to shoot rubber bullets, and I got hit,” Kaeloni said.

Protesters held Black Lives Matter signs and also held signs with names of people who have been killed by police.

While protesters were marching on Glenwood Avenue, some of them knocked objects into the roadway.

That is when the Raleigh Police department declared an unlawful assembly due to, "members of the crowd impeding the flow of traffic," according to the police department's twitter.

Police say no one was arrested on Friday night.
