BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. — There's a new mobile veterinary clinic in Asheville hoping to give pets a more intimate, at-home experience.

Paws Mobile Veterinary Clinic offers a variety of services like wellness exams, vaccines, online pharmacy, microchipping, complete laboratory testing, hospice care, and in-home euthanasia. It can't provide emergency services.

The mobile clinic arrived in town a few weeks ago from out of state.

If you don't want your pet seen in the van, vets will even make visits inside your home.

"One of the benefits of doing that (the visit) in the house is the fact that we can check out the house," says Vet Assistant Heather Collins. "So if we have a second floor, and they're having trouble going to the bathroom, making recommendations based on that or medications."

The goal is to create a less stressful, more convenient experience for pets and to get more personal time with the vet. Generally, it's no more expensive than a stationary facility.

"You're in your own element," Collins says. "We're not coming in in a threatening fashion and they're like, 'Oh, mom and dad are still here', we don't separate from mom and dad."

The clinic can take appointments online here or by phone at 757-880-4051.

House call appointments are available Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
