CHARLOTTE, N.C. – There’s only a few days left before the next President of the United States is elected, and a few artists are working to make sure people exercise their right to vote

Michelle Walsh’s passion for chalk art was born out of the the pandemic.

“I was bored during quarantine and I decided to help cheer up some neighbors by writing inspirational quotes around our neighborhood loop and that kind of evolved into drawing, which I had never done before and here we are," she says.

Recently, she decided to team up with fiber artist Ashley Jane McIntyre and come up with unique artwork to inspire people to vote.

“We are hoping that with all of the tension going on with this current election, that we’re still able to inspire a bit of joy and bring some smiles while we’re getting people out to the polls," says McIntyre.

Walsh's piece will focus on former Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, while McIntyre's piece will be a banner made out of different textile pieces.

“It’s really cool to have a chance to infuse some of my beliefs and my passion as far as making sure people are educated and aware of what’s going on in the world in conjunction with some of the arts, and some of the quirky fun sides of my personality," says McIntyre.

While it might just look like yarn and chalk to some, these different pieces show just how powerful art really can be.

“I’m hoping that if I can just convince one person to vote, I’ve done my job," says Walsh

Both pieces of art are currently located outside of Divine Barrel Brewing in the NoDa neighborhood of Charlotte.
