CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A final farewell was held on Saturday for a woman who made an impact on the lives of many North Carolinians.

Ms. Judy Williams passed away last week after a three year battle with lung cancer.

Williams is best known for founding a group called "Mothers of Murdered Offspring" back in 1993 and since then, she's held hundreds of candlelight vigils for homicide victims in Charlotte.

At her funeral, the Mayor Vi Lyles spoke about the legacy Williams left behind.

"Honestly, I wish I had a tenth of her grace, a tenth of her commitment to his community," she stated. "There's never going to be anyone like her."

Community members held multiple candlelight vigils this week to honor Williams.
