NORTH CAROLINA — A nonprofit group is encouraging Asian Americans to register to vote.

North Carolina Asian Americans Together is hosting voter registration drives in hopes of reaching more people.

Leaders say since 2010, the number of eligible Asian American Pacific Islander voters in the state grew by 43 percent, more than five times faster than the statewide growth rate.

“Asian American demographic is the fastest-growing ratio demographic in the entire state," says Ricky Leung, co-founder and senior director of programs. "It's important that we make sure our community is set to vote in this year's election.”

Leung says group also plans to host a drive-thru voter registration drive.
