MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Animal shelters have been worried about a possible spike in abandoned pets during the pandemic.

Lake Norman Humane in Mooresville is trying to keep that from happening by giving behavior training to dogs up for adoption.

Through the Leash Dog Training is helping shelter animals out pro-bono, and say it’s helping make the dogs more adoptable.

“[Owners] don't want a dog jumping. They don't want a dog using their mouth. They don't want a dog barking,” Through the Leash training director Steve Urbanski said. “Thats automatically a deterrent in their mind.”

Lake Norman Humane is open Monday through Friday at 2106 Charlotte Hwy, Mooresville, NC 28117.
