GREENSBORO, N.C. – With planes across the country grounded indefinitely, regional airports in our state are stepping in to provide parking and maintenance.

Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro is temporarily housing planes from American and Alaska Airlines.

Smith Reynolds Airport in Winston-Salem has a new arrangement with United Airlines.

The airline is parking a fleet there for the foreseeable future, with North State Aviation providing maintenance.

The airport director says it's a win-win for the airport, its tenants, and the airline.

Smith Reynolds Airport Director Mark Davidson says "that was one of the selling points, as 'hey bring them here, we know what we're doing, we can accommodate them, we'll keep people employed.' And so, United is one of the airlines to come in, as we have others that are going to start service this summer."

Davidson expects American Airlines to bring in a few maintenance projects later this summer.
