CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Pools are preparing to reopen in North Carolina, but some may not make it in time for Memorial Day weekend.

Phase 2 allows them to re-open at 50 percent capacity, and requires six-foot social distancing, cleaning of high-touch areas, daily symptom screenings of employees, and the posting of necessary signage.

Recommendations for pools include installing plexiglass between gate attendants and customers, closing snack bars in some cases, removing pool toys and shared equipment, and providing face coverings.

Carolina Pool Management runs many pools in Charlotte region, and says the rules issued this week mean many locations may not be able to open in time for Memorial Day weekend.

“Be patient and don't expect that it's going to be what it was last year, be respectful. Help us all get this thing right, because if we don't get it right we're going to be closed, “ Carolina Pool Management President Jeff Gaeckle says.

Gaeckle says many pools are eyeing June 1 for their first day of summer operation. For more details click here.
