INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. – Days after an emergency amputation of his right arm, Indian Trail Mayor Michael Alvarez is up and about spending time with people during Indian Trail’s inaugural Cruise4Kids event.

Dozens of drivers lined up to participate in the event. Filled with sports cars, motorcycles, and Jeeps, the event brought smiles to the faces to kids in the community, but especially to Alvarez.

“I think its a great idea. People have been stuck in their home going cabin crazy,” Alvarez said.

After being admitted to the hospital for an emergency amputation, Alvarez believed he could not participate in the cruise.

“The cancer came back in my arm. I had angiosarcoma and it needed to be taken care of right away. By the grace of God it didn’t spread past the part they needed to amputate,” Alvarez said.

Just days after his surgery Alvarez still spread joy by joining the event and supporting the community that supported him.
