CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Last month Actor’s, the Theatre of Charlotte, ATC, managed to raise more than $110,000. They needed the money so they could continue their next season. But now they have hit another roadblock. Due to social distancing and the stay-at-home order, they made the decision to cancel their current season.

This didn’t stop the group from continuing their passion. They started #QuarantinedCreatives to encourage members to make musical or performance videos to share.

“There is a big group of artists right now getting online and trying to find ways to stay creative,” Actor Jeremy DeCarlos said.

DeCarlos is scheduled to be in season 32 of ATC. The Executive Director Chip Decker says even though they had to cancel their current season, they are feeling optimistic about next season thanks to donors.

“We wanted to be honest to all the people who gave that money, so that is one of the reasons we have shut down on all expenditures going out,” Decker said.

It was a tough decision to make, but Decker explained by doing this they can ensure the money received from donors goes towards artists in the next season and not just staff.

“The entire staff is on board and understands furlough is a great possibility,” Decker said.

Actress Katy Shepherd has been with ATC for six years. Despite concerns of the coronavirus, she is happy they have a strong financial hold for the future.

“My hope is that the money that we worked so hard to fundraise will be the thing that really helps to push us through to have a great next season,” Shepherd said.

Season 32 of ATC is scheduled to begin in July.
