BOONE, N.C. — An Appalachian State University student who graduated in 2017 is now a teacher in China and has been teaching online for two months due to the quarantine.

Hunter Hill, a high school art teacher in Suzhou, says the transition to online was not easy at first but it has been working.

Her students are continuing to learn and she has been flexible on what materials are used for each project.

Hill says the rules are strict in her area for social distancing and cards are given every time you leave the apartment complex. They also have another card with a color on it to show if you have been near infected areas.

She says, while the rules may seem like a lot, it is important everyone works together to keep the virus from spreading.

"It will get better. There is definitely hope for the future. It's not the end of the world, and everything is going to be okay. It's just a moment that we have to all get through together, and the best way to do it is together," said Hill.

Hill says restaurants are starting to open back up in China, but there is still no date on when schools will open up.
