CONCORD, N.C. -- The Concord Police Department has charged Brian Wadell, 24, of Statesville with involuntary manslaughter following the shooting death of an 18 year old.

  • An 18 year old died after being shot in Concord Monday morning.
  • The deceased has been identified as Michael Stephens.
  • Brian Wadell has been charged with involuntary manslaughter.

According to a release, at approximately 3:08 a.m. on January 20, the Concord Police Department responded to 2924 Brooknell Ct regarding an individual suffering from a gunshot wound.

Subsequent investigation found Michael Stephens, 18, of Concord, had been shot in an upstairs bedroom and taken to the emergency room at Atrium Health.

Stephens later died as a result of his injuries.

During an interview, Waddell indicated to police that he and his friends were in an upstairs bedroom with the firearm when it accidentally discharged, hitting Stephens.

Waddell is currently in the Cabarrus County Jail under a $50,000.00 secured bond.
