GREENSBORO, N.C. - With just a few months until The Tanger Center for Performing Arts is set to open, those in Greensboro said they are excited about the performers on the lineup.

  • The Tanger Center for Performing Arts will be opening soon in downtown Greensboro
  • The new theatre has scheduled many broadway shows
  • Others set to perform include Jay Leno and Sally Field

“I’ve never been to a musical before, but I’m excited about The Lion King. I work downtown, and I’ve seen the construction process and can’t wait for it to open,” Sheena Moses said.

Matt Brown with the Greensboro Coliseum Complex said broadway shows will be the anchor of the theatre.

The center’s inaugural season will include Wicked, Dear Evan Hansen, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Mean Girls, The Lion King, and more.

Other performers include Jay Leno, Sally Field, and The Bachelor Live on Stage.

Brown said the community has responded well to the show lineup.

“All of our patronage in the Piedmont Triad area has really responded unbelievably to the number. It proves there’s a market for that here in Greensboro going west, going north, and south in our Piedmont Triad region,” he said.

The theatre can hold about 3,000 guests, and over 15,000 people have already bought season tickets.
