CASWELL COUNTY, N.C. – A Caswell County couple spends their days caring for 65 special needs farm animals.

Kristin Hartness and Jay Yontz started Ziggy’s Refuge Animal Sanctuary after adopting a pig named Ziggy.

Their goal is to give love and compassion to animals that would otherwise not get a chance at the care they need. They take neglected animals, give them a home and a family, and care for their needs. Some animals are physically disabled, others are blind or sick.

"It's about taking the animals out of the very, very worst situations and giving them the greatest lives imaginable, we feel like humans failed these animals, and it's our duty as humans to make it up to these animals, whatever we got to do," Hartness said.

Ziggy’s Refuge Animal Sanctuary is run by Hartness, Yontz, and their volunteers. It is a nonprofit organization that runs on donations. If you’d like to be part of their “Ziggy Nation”, click here to visit their website.
