CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- On Monday, December 9, the Diocese of Charlotte placed Father Patrick Hoare on administrative leave.

  • There are allegations of sexual abuse on a minor
  • The alleged incident happened 25 years ago in Pennsylvania
  • Administrative leave does not imply guilt

In a letter to St. Matthews Catholic Church, Bishop Jugis outlined allegations against Hoare.

Hoare is accused of sexual abuse of a minor about 25 years ago in Pennsylvania, before he entered the ministry.

The alleged victim reported the allegation to the diocese yesterday, December 8, and said he had been in touch with police and social services.

The Charlotte diocese will remain in touch with police and will cooperate with the investigation. When the investigation ends, the diocese will review the allegations with the Lay Review Board for an internal investigation.

In 2002, U.S. bishops adopted the Charter for Protection of Children and Young People. This charter provides the protocol for responding appropriately to allegations of abuse of minors by all church personnel.

Hoare has denied these allegations. Administrative leave is a standard procedure and does not imply guilt.
