STATESVILLE, N.C. — The Iredell County Sheriff's Office is looking for a Charlotte man they say used a stolen identity to purchase a vehicle from Randy Marion Ford.

  • Shawnn Summers is accused of buying a vehicle with a stolen identity and currently wanted by deputies.
  • Vehicle was later found in Raleigh.
  • Two people were arrested by the Raleigh Police Department.

Deputies say Timothy Eric Dennis Jr. was surprised when his credit company recently contacted him about a 2017 Cadillac Escalade being purchased under his name.

The purchase was made by a man who came into the Randy Marion dealership, according to investigators, with a South Carolina driver's license containing Dennis's information. Randy Marion says staff verified the information, but became aware of the fraud after receiving a call from the real Timothy Dennis.

The Iredell County Sheriff's Office was then alerted to the crime and identified the suspect as 21-year-old Shawnn Summers, of Charlotte.

Warrants charging Summers with Felony Identity Theft and Felony Larceny of a Motor Vehicle have been issued, but his location is unknown at this time.

Detectives say several vehicles have been fraudulantly purchased in the same manner across multiple jurisdictions and neighboring states. It is unclear whether any of them are connected.

The Escalade was later found in Raleigh, authorities say, and two people in possession of the vehicle were taken into custody.

The vehicle was not damaged but had been re-sold.

Anyone with information on Summers' whereabouts is asked to call the Iredell County Sheriff's Office at 704-878-3100 or Crime Stoppers at 704-662-1340.
