CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Holocaust survivors in the Charlotte area are getting support from the community.

Over the weekend, more than a dozen survivors and their families attended a luncheon at the Levine Center for the Arts. The event increases opportunities for survivors to socialize and connect.

Frieda Schwartz moved to the area from Boston and says company helps prevent feelings of isolation.

“I felt like I had made my new family. I felt like this community even though it’s much smaller and people are loving and caring and the leadership is just heartwarming,“ the Holocaust survivor said.

The Jewish Federations of North America gave a grant to Jewish Family Services of Charlotte to provide resources and care.
