CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The second lady, Karen Pence, is rallying support for Republican congressional nominee Senator Dan Bishop.

At a fundraiser in Charlotte, about 50 donors had a chance to hear from the former Senator and Mrs. Pence on Tuesday. Coming off Charlotte Pride weekend, we asked Bishop about his controversial record on LGBTQ issues including HB2 which specifically left out anti-discrimination protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

Bishop believes voters within the LGBT community do not see anti-discrimination policies as a primary concern.
“I think their interests, like the rest of Americans, are with people who have an economy that is functioning effectively,” Bishop said.“People who have common sense solutions.”

McCready for Congress communications director Matt Fried says McCready supports anti-discrimination legislation.
“Career politician Dan Bishop's private fundraisers with extreme Washington insiders have already cost us,” Fried said. “Senator Dan Bishop has hidden from voters in favor of closed-door fundraisers.”

Early voting starts Wednesday. Election Day is September 10.
