Charlotte, N.C. -- The Charlotte Department of Transportation planted a meter garden at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center in July of 2018.

  • All change collected in the meters will go to the United Way and the Charlotte Arts and Sciences Council
  • However, Scierra Bratton, Media Relations liaison with the Charlotte Department of Transportation says there haven’t really been any donations
  • CDOT put up a new colorful sign to catch people’s eye as they walk by

The recycled parking meters were decorated by Charlotte artists and residents.

All change collected in the meters will go to the United Way and the Charlotte Arts and Sciences Council. However, Scierra Bratton, Media Relations liaison with the Charlotte Department of Transportation says there haven’t really been any donations in the year since the meter garden was created.

CDOT put up a new colorful sign to catch people’s eye as they walk by and is encouraging people to take a selfie after their donation and post to social media using #GovPorch show people where they can donate.

The Meter Garden is on the front porch of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center at 600 E. 4th Street in Uptown Charlotte.
