CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A 19-year-old local sensation is taking a bite out of the Big Apple with her singing, acting, and dancing skills.

  • She went to Northwest School of the Arts.
  • The singer, dancer, and actress cites Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Alicia Keys, and Beyoncé as influences.

Returning to Broadway in September after a Jimmy Award (National High School Musical Theatre Awards) and a Blumey Award (Charlotte’s premiere musical theater awards) last year, Reneé Rapp is ready to take NYC by storm.

The Huntersville native went to school at Northwest School of the Arts, where she found her love for theatre.

She will make her Broadway debut in Mean Girls as Regina George in 2019, handpicked by Tina Fey herself. She says her favorite singer of all time is Frank Ocean and cites "soulful artists" as inspirations, such as Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Alicia Keys, in her words, "obviously" Beyoncé.

Rapp will take on the role of Regina George full-time beginning September 10, in for original star Taylor Louderman. She was in the role for a limited summer engagement June 7–26.
