LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. – Three people are now dead after their car slid into a creek during heavy rainfall Saturday night. 

  • Three people died after their car slid into a creek in Lincolnton Saturday night.
  • Heavy rainfall and flooding contributed to the tragedy.
  • It happened on NC-27.

According to highway patrol, the three were traveling down NC-27 near Rock Dam Road in Lincoln County when their car slid off the road and hit a tree, overturning into 6 feet of rising water.

 

 

 

Troopers tried to get the three out of the car, but were hindered by the weather. 

Officials say these were the first fatalities of this weekend’s severe weather.

Identities have not been released by officials.
