CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. – Deputies in Carteret County are investigating the puzzling circumstancing surrounding the death of a Havelock High School student.

  • Antione Godette Jr. was killed Wednesday after being run over by a car.
  • He was a student at Havelock High School.
  • Authorities say he was laying in the road on NC-24 when he was hit. 

According to officials, Antoine Marcel Godette Jr, 18, of Newport, was on his way home from his job at Wendy’s Wednesday morning around 3:40 a.m. when he was run over by a car in the westbound lane of NC-24 near the intersection of Marietta Lane.

Strangely, the sheriff’s office says Godette, who was wearing dark clothes, was already lying in the road when he was hit. He died on the scene.

The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with authorities.
