GASTON COUNTY, N.C. -- A raccoon killed by a dog has been confirmed to have rabies.

Animal control received the call on Saturday from someone in the 800 block of Unity Church Road. The raccoon was processed for rabies and tested positive.

The Gaston County Department of Health and Human Services has been notified and Animal Care and Enforcement Specialists canvassed immediate areas where the animal was located.

The Gaston County Police Department Animal Care and Enforcement Division is asking all pet owners to have a valid rabies vaccination for the health of both the pets and owners.
