The year 2018 hit farmers hard across our state after Hurricane Florence.

The governor and several other political leaders, many of whom are farmers themselves, showed their support for farmers across the state.

Earlier Wednesday, Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler joined several legislative leaders to announce the 2019 Farm Act.

This year, the focus will be on making North Carolina a leader in the hemp industry.

The effort comes after new federal laws will allow for added expansion.

Lawmakers say they are ready to compete in this growing market. The legislation also calls for the trademark of North Carolina sweet potatoes.
