Among those named, two of them play and coach in our state, and are also a part of one of the most intense rivalries in college sports.

The national player of the year is R.J. Barrett, a freshman and small forward at Duke University. USA Today says although Zion Williamson might beat Barret for the No. 1 pick in June's NBA draft, he's proven himself to be the more impressive player, carrying the load when Williamson was hurt for six games.

The national coach of the year is UNC Chapel Hill men's basketball coach Roy Williams. He's helped his team win 15 of their last 17 games as co-champions in the ACC and earn a no. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament.

USA Today's first team includes R.J. Barrett and Zion Williamson.
