CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Nine weeks on the run, Delilah is now back in Charlotte after making her way around the mountains.
- The puppy ran off on her owners back in January
- Delilah began her journey near Blowing Rock
- She crossed over Grandfather Mountain and ended up near Banner Elk
The 1-year-old puppy ran off on her owners back in January during a family vacation. Four volunteers began work immediately setting up cameras and traps while leaving food for her two times a day.
"She is no longer just our dog she belongs to an entire mountain community," Paige Twer, Delilah's owner, said. "We are completely indebted and we will forever be connected with these ladies"
Delilah began her journey near Blowing Rock. She crossed over Grandfather Mountain and ended up near Banner Elk.
It was a long journey for her and for volunteers who finally trapped her in an abandoned house after many sleepless nights.
"It was tough knowing there was a dog out there. She was young. She had no experience being in the wild," volunteer Jessica Clearwater said.
Volunteers say they still have to pay additional funds to the trapping company they brought in to the help with the search. They have set up a GoFundMe to help with those funds.
