LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. -- A Lincoln County veteran has started a support group for veterans.

After serving in the Army and coming home, Joseph Briggs was surprised there weren’t any meeting groups for veterans. He says he wants something more personal than the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He has seen friends who come home and don't know how to cope and end up depending on alcohol and medication. To remedy that, he created Band of Brothers Lincolnton.

"The whole idea behind Band of Brothers Lincolnton is just to create a meeting space for veterans where they can come meet up with one another. Obviously we have the VFW, but this is a constant contact, at least starting out once a month," Briggs said.

The first meeting will be March 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Highland Drive Freewill Baptist Church. They also have a Facebook group.
