CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- This weekend could have the highest hotel occupancy in Charlotte's history, according to Charlotte Hospitality and Tourism Alliance.

  • Hotels are at virtual capacity

The CRVA expects more than 150,000 people in town for the NBA All-Star Game and events. Airbnb says its already seen a record number of hosts in the city book a record amount of rooms. Hotels are at virtual capacity, and hope this weekend attracts future events.

“This is really showing everybody that Charlotte can handle these big time events,” general manager at Hyatt House Charlotte Center City Matt Allen said. “We know what we’re doing. We’re experienced with it. Come to Charlotte.”

By Wednesday evening, guests booked roughly 65 percent of all Charlotte Airbnbs for the weekend.

Another service, Vacation Rentals by Owner, says this weekends demand is up 80 percent compared to last year, with a 56 percent increase to the average nightly rate.
