RALEIGH, N.C. – Gov. Roy Cooper has rescinded Charlotte City Councilwoman Lawana Mayfield's appointment to the State Human Relations Commission.

  • Gov. Cooper appointed Lawana Mayfield to another position
  • According to a letter, her appointment had not been completed
  • Gov. Cooper decided to rescind it effective immediately

It comes after pressure from state Senate Republicans who blasted the move. In a letter from the attorney for the governor's office, William McKinney told Mayfield the important work of the commission needs to continue without distraction from its mission.
