CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- After one of -- if not the-- coldest mornings we've seen so far this season, temperatures will be slow to warm on MLK Day. With cold high pressure building in, highs will only manage to warm into the mid to upper 30s with wind chills in the 20s across the Piedmont. The mountains, who remain under Wind Chill Advisories until noon Monday, will only see wind chills peak in the single digits by the afternoon. Expect plenty of sunshine to lead into a clear but cold night ahead with lows down into the single digits and teens.

Tuesday will feature another day of sunshine with a bit of a warm up. Highs will be back into the low to mid 40s. Cloud cover increases Wednesday ahead of our next cold front set to bring us rain late Wednesday into early Thursday with some light mountain snow Thursday morning on the backside of this system. High pressure will build back in Friday through Saturday with highs in the 40s to round out the week.
