A shot of true arctic air is arriving in the region today. Temperatures through the day are falling in most locations, and a very stiff northwest wind remains in place. Winds in the mountains could gust over 60mph at times with foothill and piedmont wind gusts over 35 or 40mph possible. Snow in the High Country this morning will continue to taper off as well.

A frigid night is on tap tonight with lows in the single digits in the mountains and likely in the 15-20 degree range for much of the piedmont. When you add in the effects of wind, overnight wind chill values will likely dip well below 0 in the mountains and into the single digits in the piedmont.

Monday will be very chilly with highs well below average. Mountain highs will be in the 20s with piedmont highs in the upper 30s.

Temperatures will gradually moderate toward mid-week.

Our next storm system will arrive Wednesday. There is a chance that enough cold air will be left in place that a brief period of freezing rain occurs Wednesday morning. However, everyone quickly changes to rain later Wednesday, and rain chances continue into Thursday morning.

Following that system, another big-time blast of arctic air arrives by the upcoming weekend.

Stay warm!
