CHARLOTTE, N.C. --More than 100 community groups strolled down Tryon Street in Uptown Charlotte for the MLK Parade.

Saint Peters Episcopal Church helped people brave the cold and rain by handing out free cookies and hot chocolate.

Lisa Harris came to the parade with her son and nieces to have some fun while also learning about why they don’t have school Monday.

"I think this is a great way for Charlotte to show, especially younger kids, you know, this is what MLK is all about."

The United Way also honored Dr. King with a legacy day of service.
