CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Holiday parties and meals can lead to extra pounds and health problems, but there are ways to help yourself stay healthy.

Here are some tips: 

  • Get Regular exercise. Even just a walk helps
  • Limit Alcohol
  • Don't skip meals to eat more later
  • Drink lots of water
  • Use portion control

Carmen Teague, Director of Internal Medicine at Atrium Health, told us, "I would never tell anyone not to try Aunt Stellas deviled eggs or the special dessert but I would say take a small portion."

Teague also says sticking to your exercise routine and staying active is also important. It can be something as simple like a walk before dinner or a yoga class.
