GASTON COUNTY, N.C. -- A puppy in Gaston County is looking for his "fur-ever" home. He was saved by Animal Control after they found him in a scary situation.

  • Huxley was rescued after officers went to a home to serve an arrest warrant
  • Animal Control says the dog had never received veterinary care
  • He will be up for adoption after the holidays

Karrie Brotzman, the adoption coordinator for Gaston County Animal Control, says officers went to a house to serve an arrest warrant on drug charges. When they arrived, they found a pit bull puppy, now named Huxley.

"Left in that situation long term, there's no way to know how it would have gone for him," Brotzman said.

She says Huxley had never received any veterinary care, so officers brought him to the shelter.

Huxley is now in the care of a foster mom through the group South of the Bully. The group works with "bully-breeds" to make sure they find a loving home.

"We are bringing these dogs into our own private homes, and exposing them to a normal life that a dog should be exposed to. So they're getting that consistency, they're getting that daily routine. They're getting that love and care that they should have always gotten," said Shiloh Keuler, a volunteer with South of the Bully.

Huxley will be available for adoption after the holidays.
