CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A Charlotte business is getting national attention thanks to their girl power mentality.

  • Girl Tribe was originally a graphic t-shirt company with messages promoting empowered women.
  • Their events host more than 100 vendors, and feature all female business owners to help support other women entrepreneurs.
  • They've hosted pop-ups in Atlanta and Nashville, and this caught the attention of Forbes Magazine.

Sarah Baucom and Carrie Barker started Girl Tribe in 2014, and it was originally a graphic t-shirt company with messages promoting empowered women.

"We knew that we were passionate about supporting other women-owned businesses, and so we kind of created a business that supports women owned businesses," Baucom said.

Their online business grew, and the duo started hosting pop-ups in 2015. The events host more than 100 vendors, and feature all female business owners to help support other women entrepreneurs.

"Really I think the energy and synergy around the pop ups started really growing our following," Barker said. "It really grew our product, and we started honing in on our messaging of Girl Tribe, and women supporting women and together we can all rise."

The Girl Tribe store opened in South End in 2017, and the pop-ups have become a national movement. They've hosted pop-ups in Atlanta and Nashville, and this caught the attention of Forbes Magazine

"Women know something's going on, and they want to connect, and they want something more. It's like not your typical American dream anymore. It's about really fulfilling your passions in a different way," said Barker.

The final pop-up of the year is December 15 and 16 in Charlotte. For ticket information, click here

Baucom and Barker are bringing the pop-ups to Washington, D.C. and Austin, TX in 2019.
