CHARLOTTE -- After another cold start to the day, Thursday will kick off a warming trend that will continue through the weekend ahead of a cold front set to push through late Saturday into Sunday. Along with the return of mild weather, we'll also look for the return of rain over the upcoming weekend.

Thursday will feature one more day of dry weather as high pressure builds in from the south. Temperatures will be just shy of average -- and warmer than Wednesday -- with highs back into the low to mid 50s under lots of sunshine. The mountains will watch for an increase in cloud cover with showers moving in Thursday evening as a warm front begins lifting over parts of the Tennessee Valley.

Friday will be off to a much milder start with lows in the upper 30s and 40s. Showers will likely be spotting the area for the morning commute with on-and-off spot showers expected to continue through the day. A steadier rain will arrive Saturday as the cold front associated with this system begins pushing eastward over the Blue Ridge.  Scattered showers will continue into Sunday where temperatures should warm into the low 70s for many across the Piedmont. While the entire weekend won't be a washout, expect to run into some rain from time to time if you're planning on heading outdoors!
