CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- More than two million Atrium Health patients' personal information may have been exposed after a data breach in September.

  • Hackers got access to things home addresses and social security numbers of Atrium Health patient.
  • Atrium Health says they were notified on October 1. 
  • We're told No medical records were accessed.

 

According to Atrium Health, the company handling billing for the hospital, AccuDoc, had its computers compromised between September 22 and September 29 of this year.

Hackers got access to sensitive information like home addresses and social security numbers.           

Atrium Health was notified of the breach on October 1. 

When asked why it took so long to make the breach public an atrium health spokesperson said: "These are complicated investigations. We are now at the point where we understand what happened, who was impacted, and what information was accessed."

We're told no medical records were accessed. The hospital says it is notifying customers impacted by the breach.
